The Westgate Warrior’s bid to lift the European title ended in disappointment in Denmark on Saturday night after a cut to the champion caused by an accidental head clash saw the fight end in a technical draw.

The contest was just heating up before the gash was deemed too severe for the home favourite to continue with proceedings at the Ceres Arena in Aarhus brought to an abrupt end in the fourth round.

Lowe was a voluntary challenger meaning it is largely up to Ceylan’s promoters the Sauerlands if they grant the former English and Commonwealth champion a second crack at their man.

But the Morecambe fighter’s manager Steve Wood is intending to write to the European Boxing Union in a bid to force the rematch.

A second meeting might not be immediate however as Ceylan’s cut above his left eyebrow needs time to heal with a fight for Lowe in Lancaster or Morecambe possible in the interim.

Tyson Fury, ringside on Saturday night, has called for his good friend to get the chance to fight on home soil with Wood hoping to set up a meeting with the former heavyweight champion to discuss the possibility of a first major professional boxing show in the area for more than 20 years.

“I’ve got to get the rematch.” said Lowe.

“That’s what we’re hoping for but there’s no way they (Ceylan’s team) want it.

“But if he’s a true champion and I’m such easy work like they said before the fight then why not do it again?

“I deserve it.”

Having upset Marco McCullough to win the Commonwealth title back in February last year with Irish fans dominating the Manchester Arena, the former Lancaster Boxing Academy man doesn’t want the reputation of being a road warrior.

“Dennis could be out for two or three months,” he said.

“If I’ve got to wait I’ll wait but I want a homecoming fight in the meantime.

“I’m always the away fighter, the underdog that’s supposed to lose.

“I’d fight next week if I could. I’m taking a week off then I’ll be straight back in the gym.”
