Isaac Lowe's European title bid cut short due to head clash

Morecambe’s former English and Commonwealth champion was looking to upset the home favourite in Aarhus and will hope a rematch can be made. 


The fight was developing into an intriguing contest before Lowe and Ceylan came together in the fourth. 


The champion immediately looked shaken with the fight being waved off and declared a technical draw due to the severity of the injury.


“I feel for myself and Dennis,” Lowe, backed by former world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, said post-fight.  


“I wanted to win this fight as much as he did. It was an accident. 


“It was just heating up and I’m gutted. 


“Let’s sign the papers and do it again and give the fans what they want.”


After a personal build-up there was a wild start to the contest with both man opening up and trading, Lowe nearly put down towards the end of the opening round. 


He settled into his boxing more in the second and third sessions and had enjoyed a good fourth before a lunge forward saw the Westgate Warrior clash with the London 2012 Olympian causing a cut. 


The gash was seen to by Ceylan’s corner and the ringside doctor before proceedings were brought to a premature halt. 


“It’s an unfortunate end,” said promoter Nisse Sauerland.


“It was a really great contest between two good fighters. 


“Dennis has to go and check out the eye in hospital. It will take a while to mend but why not do it again?”
