Morecambe’s unbeaten Westgate Warrior defends his newly-won crown for the first time against Ryan Doyle on the undercard of Anthony Crolla’s world title clash with Darleys Perez at the Manchester Arena on November 21.

Doyle, 10-1, is set to provide the toughest test of Lowe’s career but the champion is confident it is an examination he will pass with flying colours.

Lowe said: “It has all the makings of being a great fight.

“We’re going to trade toe-to-toe.

“It’ll be a war and I think it could be the fight of the year.”

Doyle, from Gorton, will fight in front of a home crowd as he looks to inflict a first career defeat on Lowe but the Morecambe man believes his experience on the big stage could be decisive.

Former Lancaster Boxing Academy fighter Lowe, 11-0, lifted the English title with a ninth round stoppage of Jamie Speight at the Leeds Arena on September 5.

He said: “I’ve got experience of fighting in front of 12,000 people when I won the title.

“He’ll be the home fighter but these are the kinds of stages that you want to fight on as a champion.

“I’m more than confident I’ll go in there and do a job on him.”

Doyle, 24, will first be in action in Manchester this Saturday night on a VIP Promotions bill at the Victoria Warehouse that also features Lancaster’s Tomi Tatham.

Lowe is hoping his foe won’t pick up any injuries that could scupper their fight next month.

He said: “To be honest I’d rather he didn’t box in case he gets a cut or an injury.

“But he wants to fight and hopefully he passes it with flying colours and then we can get it on on November the 21st.

“He’ll have no excuses about not being fit because of the fight on Saturday and it makes me train even harder knowing he’ll be in fight shape.

“He’s a good kid and these are the kind of tests I’ve got to get through as the English champion.”
