Isaac Lowe ordered to defend title against tough South African

Morecambe’s Westgate Warrior made history with his eighth round stoppage of Marco McCullough to lift the vacant title on the undercard of Carl Frampton’s win over Scott Quigg.

And the fast-rising 22-year-old has had little time to ponder his next move with the Commonwealth Boxing Council putting forward Preston-based South African Tshifhiwa Munyai as his mandatory challenger.

Know as the Atomic Spider, the 30-year-old boasts an impressive 27-4-1 record as a professional and is a former Commonwealth Bantamweight champion.

He is perhaps best known to British fight fans however for his world title challenge against Scott Quigg, Bury's then WBA World super bantamweight champion retaining his title with a brutal second round knockout back in April 2014.

Munyai does have success over Brits however having beaten both Martin Power, twice, and current IBF World bantamweight champion Lee Haskins in 2006.

A victory over Danilo Pena in 2011 also saw the South African lift the International Boxing Organisation’s version of the World super bantamweight title.

Munyai’s last three fights, all victories by knockout, have taken place in the North West after he linked up with Preston trainer Johnney Roye.

The Commonwealth Boxing Council have stipulated a meeting between Lowe and Munyai must take place before June 30 this year.
