Isaac Lowe handed Commonwealth title shot on Quigg-Frampton bill

Isaac Lowe will take on Marco McCullough for the Commonwealth featherweight title on the undercard of Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg’s huge super bantamweight unification fight on February 27.

The Manchester Arena is already sold out for the huge Sky Sports Box Office event with the resort’s English champion ready to grab his chance on the biggest of stages.

The 21-year-old said: “I’ve always said it.

“The bigger the stage, the better Isaac Lowe will be.

“It’s the biggest stage he’ll have fought on so it’ll be interesting to see how he goes.

“I’m used to these arenas now and it will be another day at the office for me.

“This show is on another level though with two Brits in a world title unification fight.

“I’m fighting for a major title on Sky PPV on one of the biggest bills of this or any year and I intend on bringing the belt back to the seaside.”

Lowe heads into the fight on the back of a draw with Ryan Doyle in the first defence of his English title at the same venue back in November.

The former Lancaster Boxing Academy fighter knows the fight with Frampton stablemate McCullough represents a step up with the 26-year-old from Belfast having won 14 of his 16 professional outings.

Lowe admits he would have liked more time to prepare for a fight that is arguably the biggest ever for fighter from the area not called Tyson Fury but says he will be in tip-top shape come fight night after being handed the surprise opportunity to lift the Commonwealth strap.

The undefeated Westgate Warrior, already over at Freedom ABC in Doncaster full-time ahead of the fight, said: “I was looking for some big fights in 2016 so to start with a fight for the Commonwealth title is massive.

“It’s a big step up coming off the draw but it’s the kind of fight I’m in the game for and these are the ones I’ve wanted since I was a little boy. I can’t wait.

“I would have liked more time but you’ve got to take chances like this when they come along.

“I wasn’t going to get back into the ring until mid-March.

“I went on holiday to Tenerife and the day I got back I got the call from Steve (Wood, manager) saying did I want a Commonwealth title shot on the Quigg-Frampton bill.

“It’s a massive opportunity and one I couldn’t let go of.

“I wanted a 12-week training camp but I’m over in Doncaster now full-time and come February 27 I’ll be more than ready.”

Lowe, 10-0-1 as a pro after the Doyle draw, is predicting an explosive performance and is confident of picking up a major title in style.

He said: “I know he’s a clever boxer who can punch.

“He’s won 14 of 16 and is a good kid.

“But I’ve boxed some top people as an amateur and had tough fights as a pro.

“At the end of the day he’s a man with two arms and two legs and I’m going to take it to him.

“He’s been knocked out once before and I’m going to do it to him for a second time.”
