Mathew Doey was in action again this time in the NW Youth Semi Finals.

Mathew was up against a very experienced boxer from Chorley ABC called James Wignall.

Wignall has been on the boxing scene for a number of years and had vast experience over the Skerton boxer.

The bout started at a fast pace with both boxers trying to get the upper hand and at the end of the first it looked like a shared round.

The second round started and Doey of Skerton upped the pressure and pushed Wignall onto his backfoot landing some impressive clean shots that won him the round.

The third started and it was clear Wignall knew he needed a big round if he was to be in with a chance of getting the decision.

Wignall came forward throwing wild shots, but in his desperation he lost composure and his defence dropped and Doey took advantage of this and picked his opponent off at will.

The final bell sounded and Doey’s hand was raised as unanimous winner.

He now moves on to the NW final that will be held this coming Saturday again in Walkden.

Also on the bill at Walkden on Saturday was Jimmy Mason (11) who was having a rematch against Cameron Wilson who had gained a points win against the Skerton boxer a month earlier.

Wilson is from Sharpstyle ABC of Blackpool and came into the bout full of confidence after his previous victory.

But Mason had been waiting to avenge his previous loss and exploded from the first bell landing clean shots and showing great skill that Wilson found hard to
handle.

The second round started and it was clear Mason was enjoying this bout and started to showcase his excellent footwork and clever boxing and completely flummoxed the Sharpstyle boxer for the full round.

As the third started Mason was clearly beating his opponent and didn’t let up on the pressure and pushed Wilson into a corner landing shot after shot to the head and body with nothing coming
back.

At the final bell it was a foregone conclusion that Mason had avenged his previous loss and his hand was raised as a unanimous
