Beau Smith of COLT (City of Lancaster Triathlon) was last week crowned British Junior Super Series champion following the last of seven triathlons in the series, the Inter Regional Championship, that took place at Hetton Lyons Country Park in the North East.

Also with a podium finish was Sarah Hodgson who came second in the junior category with Mary Hodgson finishing fifth in the youth competition.

Also in the youth category, 14-year-old Georgia Hannam won the biathlon at the regional triathlon qualifiers at Salt Ayre on September 15 and was also selected for the Regional Triathlon Academy.

The academy takes young triathletes with potential to compete for the UK at international triathlon events.

Georgia joins fellow COLT members Mary and Sarah Hodgson in the academy who all now follow in Beau Smith’s footsteps for the 2013 season.

At the younger end, COLT dominated weekend events in Chester and at Salt Ayre.

At the DEVA triathlon in Chester, eight-year-old Rhys Ashton once again came in first in the Tristart category winning by a clear half lap of the running circuit, Amy Monkhouse confirmed her dominance on the grass cycle circuit with a clear win of the Tristar 2 race with Ffion Ashton coming in second.

In the sprint event, Ruby Franklyn completed her first triathlon crossing the finish line first in her age category and at Tristar 3 and Tristar Youth, Sam Monkhouse and Elliott Roberston both finished second.

Further impressive performances came from 11-year-old Shea Hannam at the Salt Ayre Regional Triathlon Qualifiers who finished second in the triathlon and qualified for the British National Triathlon finals, and eight-year-old Larissa Hannam who came third in the Biathlon.

To complete the week, COLT Juniors received the news that their sponsorship from Technology Farm Limited would be extended for the 2013 season.

This sponsorship fund aims to assist COLT’s top athletes to train and compete at a national and international level.

It also encourages widening participation within the introductory events of the North West Triathlon Series through the availability of prize money for COLT Juniors competing and reaching podium finishes.

COLT would like to thank Technology Farm for their support.
