MORECAMBE produced another excellent away performance to beat struggling Barnet at Underhill.
Kevin Ellison’s 17th goal of the season gave the Shrimps the lead at the break.
Ellison scored on 43 minutes after a mistake from home goalkeeper Liam O’Brien who spilled a volley from Stewart Drummond into the path of Ellison who made no mistake from close range.
The goal came against the run of play after Barnet had the better of the half for long periods. Izale McLeod had a goal disallowed for offside on 25 minutes and Barry Roche made a great save from a Mark Byrne free kick.
McLeod clipped a shot inches wide after being played through by Ricky Holmes and Ben May should have done better after a neat turn in the box.
The Shrimps were much more controlled in the second half and doubled their lead on 62 minutes with an excellent finish from Jack Redshaw after a dangerous cross from Garry Hunter.
Morecambe were rarely threatened from there and almost added a third when Lewis Alessandra turned quickly in the box and clipped a shot against the crossbar.
Boss Jim Bentley made three changes to the side that lost 1-0 against Hereford last week.
Redshaw came in for his full debut up front with Stewart Drummond and Kevin Ellison returning to the side.
Out go the injured Sean McGinty, Lewis Alessandra and Danny Carlton with the latter two dropping to the bench.
