Athletics: Onek in fine form on the road

Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club members have been enjoying success on the roads.

At the Lancaster 5k race series William Onek was first club runner back, with a strong effort of 16m.40 placing him third overall.

In ninth was Mark Holgate with a good run of 17m.41, followed by Alex Patrickson running 18m.48 to finish 14th.

Jayne Perry was first female for the club with a super run of 20m.20. The other finishers were Gareth Dowthwaite in 22m.23 and David Winkfield in 23m.48.

Just a few days later Onek continued his good form with a win at the Welcome Tavern 5k, clocking 16m.30 to take the victory.

At the Wagon & Horses 10-mile road race athletes faced torrential rain and strong winds but there were some good performances.

First club runner was Phil Lowery, running a fantastic time of 59m.57 to finish fifth overall out of more than 150 runners.

Next was David Wilkinson running well in 1h.16.50. First female for the club was Emily Stapleton with a great run of 1h.21.45 and she was well backed up by team mates Gill Hamilton in 1h.26.40 and Carole Wilkinson in 1h.27.08.

Other finishers were Sarah Holden in 1h.31.21, Tracey Bruce in 1h.32.36, Ashley Toms in 1h.34.13 and Linda Stapleton in 1h.40.27.

There was also a small number of Lancaster athletes at the Welcome Tavern 10k.

Steve Perry ran well to finish 23rd in 45m.15 taking first veteran 55 and just one place behind was David Wilkinson running 45m.29, taking second veteran 55 place.

David’s wife Carole also ran well, finishing 52nd in 51m.44.
