There was a good turnout from Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club runners at the Muddy Shoes 11-mile race in Calvervale.

The off-road race guarantees participants will finish with more than just their shoes covered in mud.

Sean Davis had a great run and made light work of the terrain to finish well up the field in fifth place in 1h.16.53.

Runners were encouraged to run in pairs in case they got stuck in the mud, so finishing together were Vinn and Melissa McGuire in 1h.37.40, David and Carole Wilkinson in 2h.07.31 and Linda and Emily Stapleton in 2h.24.23, with Linda taking first veteran 65 position.

Club runner Mark Gardner has been busy travelling to races far and wide.

First at the Glasgow Green 3k Mark ran a strong race to come through to fifth position out of 61 runners with a good effort of 9m.59.

Last week he took part in the Armagh International Road Race 3k in Northern Ireland, which attracts elite runners looking for a fast time, and Mark had an excellent run to finish 25th out of 157 runners in 9m.41.

His team mate David Brown competed in the 5k, which also had an incredibly fast field, including Great Britain triathlete Jonny Brownlee, who finished in third place in 14m.00.

David took advantage of the fast course and stormed round to a fantastic new personal best time of 15m.44, finishing in 88th place against high-quality competition.
