Attended by more than 40 local gridiron enthusiasts coach Scud Fairhurst and his assistant coaches put the rookies through their paces.

The trialists were taught the fundamental techniques and rules of the game based upon position and then participated in a controlled scrimmage of offense versus defence to get a feel for playing in a real game.

Coach Fairhurst said: “It was terrific to see so many new people wanting to play the game.

“There was a lot of very talented athletes across a broad demographic of ages and sizes and this is very encouraging for the future development of the club.

“It’s a great start to the club and something we can definitely build upon to realise our goal of entering a team in to the adult contact league for the 2017 summer season.”

Training is every Thursday evening from 7pm until 9.30pm and every Sunday 2pm until 4.30pm on the artificial pitch at Salt Ayre.

The Storm are still recruiting so anyone who would like to be involved can attend a practice.
