With these new channels, customers will be able to enjoy shows such as War of the Worlds, NCIS, Only Fools and Horses, and Gold Rush - the perfect way to stay entertained while stuck indoors.

How to access the free channels

The announcement follows Virgin's previous offer of free access to kids' channels like Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon, until 21 April.

"With some parents across the UK at home with their little ones, Virgin Media is offering families a helping hand to keep their kids entertained," the company said.

Customers won't have to do anything themselves to gain access to the channels - they should simply be available to watch through your Virgin TV box.

However, customers who already pay for the newly available channels won't receive a rebate.

Avoid contacting call centres

As well as offering access to new channels, Virgin says it is also working hard to make sure that broadband connection remains consistent during a period of high demand while thousands work from home.

During this period, the company has asked customers to avoid making calls to its call centres, with some closed during lockdown.

The company isn't the only one to offer freebies and discounts during the coronavirus pandemic. For example, Amazon recently announced that it would be making some of its Prime Video Channels available for 99p for the next three months.
