Cyprus holiday season ‘can be written off’ as UK tourists are unable to return to popular resorts - including Ayia Napa
Many UK holidaymakers usually flock to Cyprus each summer, but popular destinations in the country - including the party resort of Ayia Napa - have seen a decline in international tourism so far this season.
UK residents are not able to return to Cyprus until 1 August, with the usually lively resort of Ayia Napa currently quiet.

Although hotels in Cyprus, including Ayia Napa, were able to reopen from 4 June, many have not seen the return of guests. Some remain closed.
Bars are also opening at just 10 to 20 per cent capacity. Resorts are currently relying on domestic tourism, until international tourism returns in full.
According to local media, the Cyprus Hotel Association said, "2020 can be written off as far as tourism is concerned, particularly in the Famagusta area, where hotels are suffering the effects of the coronavirus pandemic and the consequences of travel restrictions."
British holidaymakers not able to visit Cyprus until August
Health Minister Constantinos Ioannou confirmed that from 1 August the UK will be able to enter Cyprus without quarantining.
Currently, you cannot enter Cyprus if:
- you have been in the UK in the last 14 days
- you can only enter Cyprus if you can show proof that you are a legal resident of Cyprus or a Cypriot ID holder and a negative PCR test result (taken in the previous 72 hours)
The FCO explains, “the Republic of Cyprus government have indicated that this may change from 1 August. You should continue to track developments through the Republic of Cyprus Information Office.”
