The One Show paid tribute to one of its colleagues who passed away over the weekend.

Presenter Alex Jones said that “everyone in the team is absolutely devastated” at the news.

Who was Charlie Mott?

Charlie Mott was a researcher on The One Show who passed away over the weekend.

The cause of Motts’ death has not been publicly announced.

Mott had been with the BBC since 2018 after having graduated from Bournemouth University the year prior with a Bachelor's Degree in Multimedia Journalism.

Before joining The One Show, Mott worked on a variety of BBC programmes, including the Graham Norton Show, The Hotel Inspector and Strictly Come Dancing.

He had been with the BBC for two years, initially as a studio researcher and then finally as a shooting researcher.

Alex Jones spent the closing moments on the episode of The One Show on Monday 24 August paying tribute to her colleague.

Before the programme ended, Jones said: “Now, before we go, we just wanted to pay tribute to one of our colleagues, Charlie Mott, who sadly died at the weekend.

“Everybody in the team is absolutely devastated, he was hugely talented and such good company.

“We’ll miss him so much. Our thoughts are with his family and we’re sending lots of love from all of us here. Goodnight.”

After Jones finished, the closing credits on The One Show were displayed in silence rather than with the usual theme song as a mark of respect for Mott.

The One Show’s official Twitter account posted a clip of Jones talking about Motts, with the caption: “‘We’ll miss him so much.’ @MissAlexjones pays tribute to one of our colleagues, Charlie Mott, who sadly died at the weekend. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

On social media, other colleagues and friends who knew Mott posted their tributes after hearing the news.

Welsh sprinter Iwan Thomas wrote on Twitter: “Totally devastated, one of the nicest people I have met in the industry, always brought a smile to my face when I saw his name on the call sheet knowing I’d spend time with him.

“Talented, kind & funny, taken far too young. Will miss you Charlie boy x”

Kevin Duala, presenter and reporter on The One Show, posted a picture of himself and Motts, with the caption: “This was just over a week ago! I can’t believe it! A lovely man, great professional always smiling on location with the world at his feet. My condolences go to all the family. #ripcharlie.”

“Such a joyous, passionate and dedicated person to work with. I’ll miss him forever. From Secret Britain to @BBCTheOneShow We saw the UK far & wide, always a constant pleasure. RIP Charlie x,” tweeted producer and director Matt Pitts-Tucker.

Tim Peake, an astronaut who worked with The One Show on a series about science and technology, tweeted: “Such tragic news - Charlie was a wonderful, friendly guy, a real pro and a pleasure to work with. Thoughts are with his family.”
