The business is run by Deirdre Ward and John Parlane, winner of the RYA ‘Instructor of the Year’ award.

People travel from all over the north to learn to sail on Morecambe Bay.

During the winter the focus shifts to navigation and theory courses right up to Yachtmaster Ocean level.

The majority of people attracted to Bay Sea School are adult beginners. Learning the basics on a small yacht is a perfect way to start. It takes just four days to complete the beginners’ course.

Morecambe Bay is also an excellent place for tidal sailing experience so there’s lots on offer for improvers too.

Every business has its challenges but running one based on the elements adds a different dimension. Insurance only allows sailing from April to September, the tides are right for sailing every other week and then there’s the UK weather!

But a passion for sailing helps John and Deirdre overcome these local challenges to introduce a steady stream of delighted newcomers to sailing on Morecambe Bay!
