Young people's award honours inspirational Adam

The campaigning parents of a young Padiham Football Club coach, who was killed with a single punch when he tried to act as peacemaker on a night out, have set up an award scheme in their son's memory that will recognise inspirational young people.

Adam Rogers was killed in 2009 at the age of 24 by a single punch from a 16-year-old who was extremely drunk. Adam had been trying to stop a fight between a group of drunken youths when the tragedy happened, leaving his family devastated.

His parents, Dave and Pat Rogers, set up a charity called Every Action Has Consequences, with the aim of educating young people about the consequences of binge drinking and casual attitudes to violence.

And now they are looking to find other inspirational young people like their son to recognise their achievements in his memory.

Pat, who was named as Inspirational Woman of the Year for her work since Adam’s death, said: “We want as many nominations as possible so we can recognise the wonderful things young people are doing in Lancashire.

“The categories are in art, community, environment, facing adversity, music, science, sport, volunteering, and an open category for anything not covered.

“The thing that makes the most powerful impact on young people is that the true character of Adam comes through when his story is told.

“Adam was a truly inspirational young man and we feel it is fitting that we celebrate other inspirational young people in Adam’s memory.”

Named the Lancashire Inspirational Young Peoples Awards, the event will be to be held at the Dunkenhalgh Hotel on Friday, September 23rd, but nominations must be in by Sunday, July 10th.

A panel will shortlist the finalists so if you would like to nominate someone go to the website http://www.eahconsequences.com/
