Gary Wood, the new landlord at the York Hotel in Morecambe and a former serviceman himself, has organised a fundraiser to be held this Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday.

The event will include live music, children’s activities, a magician, face painting, raffles and a barbecue.

Carl is originally from Newcastle, although he has relatives living in Carnforth, where Gary was previously the landlord at The Shovel Inn.

He moved to Canada two years ago.

“He is having to stay with friends,” Gary said. “He hasn’t been able to get any help from the Royal British Legion or Red Cross because he doesn’t live in England any more.”

The event will start at 2pm on both days.
