Woman taken to hospital as smash closes A6

AN elderly woman has been taken to hospital after a collision between a car and an HGV on the A6 near Cabus.

It happened outside Cabus Mart Garage at 12.45pm today, when a builders’ merchant wagon heading north collided with a red Audi A4 which had emerged from a side road.

Emergency services were called to the scene and firefighters from Lancaster and Garstang had to cut open the Audi to allow paramedics to get to the woman, who was taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

She was conscious and her injuries are not believed to be life threatening, but both vehicles suffered significant damage and oil from the wagon spilled onto the road.

Fire crews used cement dust from the wagon to soak up the spillage and police closed the road in both directions.
