Yellow weather warning for ice issued as heavy rain continues to sweep across Lancashire

The yellow weather warning for ice means icy patches may form on untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, leading to difficult travel conditions.

Residents have also been told to expect some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

The warning comes into force from 1am on Thursday (January 21) until 10am the same day.

It covers most of the county including Preston, Lancaster, Ribble Valley, Burnley, Blackburn with Darwen, Rossendale, Hyndburn, South Ribble and Chorley.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Following clearance of heavy rain, and in places snow, ice may form quite rapidly on some surfaces."

Lancashire County Council have confirmed "selected priority routes in Wyre, Fylde and Lancaster Districts, Lancashire will be gritted overnight."

A spokesman said: "We have weather predictions of temperatures falling below zero overnight with the potential for ice and snow on some routes.

"Affected priority routes will be salted to deal with the risk.

"Please drive with care."
