Lancashire weather: yellow warning for ice issued as wintry conditions continue

Wintry conditions continue to hit the UK this week, with the Met Office issuing a yellow weather warning for ice to Lancashire.

This weather warning is in place from 8pm on Monday (24 Feb) until 10am on Tuesday (25 Feb).

The Met Office said, Further wintry showers across the north of the UK, with icy patches leading to possible hazardous travel.

“Many areas will be affected by occasional showers of rain, hail, sleet and snow, with clear spells in between leading to frost and icy surfaces,” the forecaster advised.

“Further snow accumulations of 2-6 cm are expected over parts of Scotland, mainly in the west at elevations above 200 m. 1-3 cm may affect higher routes in Northern Ireland and northern England.”

The Met Office forecast for the North West for Monday evening explains “frequent showers will affect most parts during the night, wintry on the hills.

“It will be cold with a frost inland but windy with gales around the coasts. Minimum temperature 1C.”

- Increased chance of injuries and accidents on icy pavements and cycle paths

What will the weather be like for the rest of the week?

The Met Office outlooks for the North West for Tuesday forecasts “bright spells, but frequent and heavy wintry showers affecting most parts throughout the day, driven on by a fresh to strong wind. The wind will make it feel cold.

“Scattered wintry showers continuing, with bright spells between. A risk of some organised rain, snow on high ground, during Thursday morning and potentially during Friday. Remaining cold with overnight frosts.”
