In the last 90 days there have been 13 incidents of thefts from car park ticket machines and garage car wash machines – resulting in over £3,200 in stolen cash or damages.

Inspector Mark Somers said: “These thefts are becoming increasingly common, and I would appeal to local communities to report any suspicious behaviour they may notice around car parks and petrol stations.

“I would also urge anyone who owns or runs a business with coin operated machines to ensure they have good security in place and to empty the machines on a regular basis.”

Anyone who notices suspicious activity should call Cumbria Police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
