Vomiting bug continues to hit Royal Lancaster Infirmary

Two wards at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary remain closed to new patients due to diarrhoea and vomiting amongst patients and staff.

Members of the public can still visit wards 21 and 23 but the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust is urging people not to visit with young children, not to visit if they have suffered symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting within the last 48 hours and observe handwashing requests before and after visiting.

Ward 4 at Furness General Hospital in Barrow has reopened however with ward 6 due to reopen tomorrow.

Angela Richards, Matron for Infection Prevention and Control, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We continue to stress that anyone who has suffered from diarrhoea or vomiting within the past 48 hours should not come to a hospital environment, unless they need urgent treatment.

“The symptoms can spread quickly and patients may be more susceptible to being infected.”
