A two-seat convertible used by POLICE to chase baddies in the 1930s is expected to attract bumper bids when itâ¬"s sold next month. See SWNS story SWPOLICE; The 1938 MG TA was built at a time when there were almost 7,500 fatalities on the road each year - despite just 2.5 million cars on the road. Police officers attending incidents and pursuing criminals needed something which was, at the time, nippy so they could to navigate Britainâ¬"s roads. This MG TA was first registered to the Lancaster Police in February 1938 and is thought to have remained in service for around five years. It is powered by a 1.3-litre engine which gave it a 0-60mph in 23.1 seconds and a top speed of 80mph. After its use as a police car, the MG was bought by a Canadian who loved it so much he had it shipped to his home country. An American later owned it before the MG returned to the UK in 2013
The 1938 MG TA was first registered in February 1938 and is thought to have remained in service for around five years.
It will be sold by Historics at the auction house in Brooklands, Surrey, on March 12.It could fetch up to £25,000.
