The 6ft9in British champion told officers: “I’m a boxer, I’m a superstar, I’m a celebrity!” when he was stopped at the wheel of his Mitsubishi Shogun on the outskirts of Preston on April 18 last year.

Fury, 26, of Osbourne Road, Heysham, did not attend at Preston Magistrates Court for his trial, claiming to be suffering from a bout of diarrhoea.

However prosecutor Philippa Jones said she was sceptical about his explanation as an application to adjourn the case due to Fury’s training commitments was refused earlier this week.

The trial proceeded in his absence and Fury was convicted of driving without due care and attention and driving without insurance.

He has been fined £1,000 and ordered to pay £300 costs and a £60 surcharge.

His licence was endorsed with eight penalty points bringing the total number of points he has to 11 - just one short of the limit before being banned.
