VIDEO: Record number of ladies take on hospice walk

Saturday evening saw a record number of ladies take part in the annual St John’s Hospice Moonlight Walk.

Almost 1,400 walkers donned their pink and white t-shirts and neon flashing accessories to walk 14km or 25km with the aim of helping raise more than £100,000 for the Slyne Road charity.

Walker Emma Proctor described the emotions of the evening,

She said: ”This is the second year my daughter and I are taking part. I am so proud of her.

“Words cannot describe how a person feels during the walk. I feel every good emotion there is.

“You feel a common bond with the ladies taking part, the stories, the reasons, the spirit and determination people have is out of this world.”

More than 400 ladies set off on the 25km walk at 10pm with another 900 taking to the streets at midnight for the shorter 14km course.

There were also more than 150 volunteers and marshals on the night.

Catherine Butterworth, Head of Fundraising at St John’s, said: “Without the generosity of our amazing volunteers the Moonlight Walk simply could not take place.

“We had people registering arrivals, serving drinks, setting up stages, lighting as well as over 100 course marshals who keep the ladies safe during their walk.

“We cannot thank them enough, not to mention that they didn’t leave until 5am.”
