The new agreement will start on April 1, 2015 and will mean that victim referrals from Cumbria Constabulary which were previously forwarded to a regional Victim Care Unit in Manchester to make initial contact with victims of crime will now be handled locally in Cumbria.

Victim Support, an independent charity for victims and witnesses of crime will also deliver emotional and practical support for victims to help them cope and recover from the effects of crime.

Cumbria’s Police and Crime Commissioner Richard Rhodes said: “The new unit will ensure that victims of crime in Cumbria receive the advice, help and support appropriate to their need.”
