UPDATE: Morecambe cyclist killed in Kendal bypass crash named

POLICE have named the 46-year-old man from Morecambe killed after a crash on Kendal bypass last night.

Stephen David Salt, of Elms Drive, Bare, was on his bike when he was involved in a collision with two cars on the A591 near the Prizet filling station at around 8.15pm yesterday.

Mr Salt collided with a red Seat Ibiza being driven by a 29-year-old woman, an off duty police officer from Cumbria Constabulary from Lancaster, and a green Skoda Fabia driven by a 49-year-old woman from Dalton-in-Furness.

Mr Salt, who was travelling towards the M6, was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the collision there was fog in the area and officers are investigating if the weather was a contributory factor in the collision.

The road was closed for approximately seven hours whilst an investigation was carried out.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or had seen the pedal cyclist prior to the incident to contact the Cumbria Roads Policing Unit by calling 101.
