Young people from Lancaster and Morecambe launch campaign to persuade government to support Eden Project North

North West Youth For Eden (NWYFE) is launching two competitions that will see letters and videos sent out to Boris Johnson and Rishi Sunak asking for support and funding for the planned attraction in Morecambe.

NWYFE is asking young people aged under 25 to make a short video - one to two minutes in length - about why they think the Eden Project should happen in Morecambe.

These will be sent out on our NWYFE's social media channel, as well as to Rishi Sunak and Boris Johnson.

There will be prizes for each category of entry, with more details below.

The group is also asking young people aged 25 and under to send them as many letters as possible, about why they think the Eden Project should happen in Morecambe, and is encouraging schools to get involved too.

Izzy Rycroft from NWYFE said: "We are encouraging schools to introduce these competitions in a way that encourages as many people as possible to enter, whether that be in an assembly, or as a homework task in an English, PSHE or Citizenship lesson.

"We hope you can see just how beneficial the Eden Project in Morecambe will be for our community, especially our young people.

"As well as this, please encourage your young people to have a look at our website (LINK), following us on social media and consider becoming a member of our campaign.

"They could also watch the 2.5 minute film we have made if they need ideas.

"This is a great opportunity to make sure our voices and ideas are heard!

"Together we could make a massive difference!"

The group is also asking young people under 25 to write a letter to the government explaining why they think they should provide funding for the Eden Project in Morecambe.

Izzy added: "By sending enough letters, hopefully our campaign will get the attention it needs to secure funding for the Eden Project."

The high school and primary school which send the most letters will each receive a £50 Wilko’s voucher.

A student from each Key Stage (Key stages 1 to 5) who wrote/made their favourite letter will each win a £20 voucher of their choice.

The prize categories for the short video are as follows:

Best video by a school: £200 Wilko’s voucher + £100 cash prize.

Best video by a group of 2-5 young people: £50 in a voucher of your choice for each young person

Best video by a group of 6-10 young people: £50 in a voucher of your choice for each young person

Best video by an individual young person: £100 in a voucher of your choice.

The vouchers can be chosen from these shops:

Nike, H&M, Lush, Waterstones, GAME, Zara.

This competition will close on January 31.

The judges will be people from the companies who have funded the prizes (Sea Truck Ferries, Wilkos & Mazuma)

The winners will be announced at the end of February.
