Royal Lancaster Infirmary Children's Ward re-opens after five day closure due to Covid-19 case

The wards closed on Thursday June 18 following a positive test result of staff within the hospital.

In line with government guidance, 38 members of staff from the Paediatrics (Children’s) department at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI) had to self-isolate at home.

Paediatric inpatients at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary were transferred to Furness General Hospital, but as of today - Thursday June 23, at 9am, the wards re-opened.

Dr Shahedal Bari, Medical Director, UHMBT, said: "Following the temporary closure of our Children's Ward at the RLI, we are pleased to announce that from 9am today, the ward is now fully open.

"We would like to thank all colleagues at the RLI and FGH who have worked well together to ensure children and young people remained safe and well cared for at all times and their health needs continued to be met.

"We would also like to thank everyone who has supported the Trust, including North West Ambulance Service."
