Morecambe pub allowed to re-open after Covid-19 rule break closure

The New Inn in Morecambe is now allowed to re-open with conditions after it was shut down for allegedly flouting coronavirus regulations on social distancing.

It has now been allowed to re-open under a new set of directions, which include recording customer contact details and keeping them for 21 days, meeting customers at the door as they arrive at the premises for the first week, operating a one-way system, and having no more than 33 people present on the premises at any one time.

Dr Sakthi Karunanithi, director of public health for Lancashire County Council, said: "Following detailed consideration it has been decided to revoke this Direction and replace it with a Direction containing conditions to ensure that this public house operates in a Covid secure way.

"We take public health concerns extremely seriously and will not hesitate to take action where breaches of social distancing have occurred.

"It is more important than ever that we work together to stop the spread of this virus.

"The majority of our pubs and restaurants do act responsibly and I would urge every business to play their part to protect our communities by strictly following COVID safe guidance."
