Mike Thomas, Chair, University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust (UHMBT), said: “During such difficult circumstances, and when health professionals across the world are working under more pressure than ever before, the outpouring of support, kindness, generosity and well wishes from people all across Morecambe Bay has been truly heart-warming.

“There are a number of local businesses that have changed their manufacturing processes to make products and equipment for our staff, while others have offered NHS discounts including free taxi rides and food.

“Whilst we are so grateful for all the donations and offers of help we’re receiving every day, we do still need to make sure that we’re adhering to all infection prevention, safety and quality

guidelines.

“To help us manage this, the Bay Hospitals Charity is coordinating all donations, including those of personal protective equipment and any fundraising.

They have set up a JustGiving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/bayhospitalscharity if you would like to donate, or if you have any queries please just contact the team on 01524 516064 or by email at: [email protected].

“As well as thanking everyone in the local community for their support, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of our colleagues who are working so tirelessly on the frontline in

patients’ homes, on wards and departments in our hospitals and those working remotely.

“There are no words for how proud I am of each and every one of you for the way you are coming together to respond to the ever changing landscape we are now operating in.

Despite no doubt having your own personal concerns – whether it be family or loved ones, childcare, or about actually becoming ill yourself – you still turn up every day to work even harder than you usually do.

It is this kind of attitude that makes the NHS so special and I can’t thank you all enough.”
