Lancaster universities asked to move to 'remote learning'

Lancashire County Council has issued guidance to universities asking them to move to remote learning where possible as the county is placed into the Tier 3 level of restrictions.

Lancaster University and The University of Cumbria's Lancaster campus have both been contacted for comment.

A Lancaster University spokesperson said that it was too early to comment, but staff and students would be contacted as soon as possible.

Any area going into Tier 3 requires a review of universities.

It is not yet clear whether students will move to remote learning but remain on campus, or return home.

An interactive map of the Lancaster district area shows that the "University, Galgate and Dolphinholme" area of the city has the highest levels of Covid-19 cases in the district.

Lancaster and Morecambe, along with the rest of the county will move into the highest alert level of the government's Covid-19 restrictions from tonight.
