Mike Grimmitt, who works in Shift Operations at Heysham 2 Power Station and lives in Slyne, was all set to celebrate his stag do with several friends and colleagues in Benalmadena but due to the coronavirus, their plans had to be cancelled.

Mike's wedding to fiancee Becky may have to be postponed and the planned stag do could not go ahead, but the guys had already saved up cash for the trip.

Mike said: "We decided that we could do something good with the money, (after a suggestion from Nev, one of the guys on the trip) and rather than just take it back, we decided that we'd like to support the Morecambe Bay Foodbank as we were aware that they are helping people who need food, and that they are very busy at the moment."Mike and friends have donated an amazing £2,500 to the Foodbank.

"This is such an unexpected and lovely gesture." says Annette Smith, Foodbank Manager. "We are so grateful to Mike and his friends for their generosity in supporting the Foodbank at the moment, as we are extremely busy."

The Foodbank has recently moved to Salt Ayre Leisure Centre and is working in partnership with Lancaster City Council to deliver emergency food parcels during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Last year the Foodbank gave out 8,152 emergency three day food parcels with almost half of this going to children.

Mike and his fiancee Becky are planning to get married once the pandemic is over.
