Lancaster pub shuts amid coronavirus outbreak

Owners Martin and Hannah Horner, who also run The Borough, in Dalton Square, as well as the annual Lancaster On Ice event, said it felt irresponsible to keep it open given it is a small locals pub.

The government has advised people not to visit pubs, clubs and theatres in an effort to stop the spread of coronavirus, but it is not forcing them to close.

Pub and restaurant bosses have previously said they have no choice but to stay open."It is with an aching heavy heart today that we are closing the Brit with immediate effect," The Brit said in a statement.

"As a small locals pub it seems irresponsible to keep open and not play our part in social distancing.

"We will get through this and hopefully we will be here on the other side.

"We are so very grateful to all our frontline workers who are working their magic now and in the future. Thank you guys."

The Borough remains open and is offering takeaway and delivery service of food and drink
