Due to begin shooting today, October 12, in Leeds, The Therapist follows Amelia, an innocent but stricken girl seeking to fix her troubled past with the help of her new therapist, Elaine.

Unfortunately for Amelia, however, Elaine is not who she claims to be and, through a series of orchestrated events, Amelia finds herself trapped in the lion’s den.

Starring Róisín Monaghan as Elaine, London-based actor Anna Galbraith as Amelia and New York actor/comedian Mike Capozzola as Patrick, McGill Productions said the horror/thriller is set to pack a punch with "uncomfortable viewing".

Last month, the company produced a film for Manchester Pride which was highly praised.

Shane Ogley, McGill’s the company's co-founder and managing director, and executive producer of the film said: “We aren’t messing around when we say this film is going to be disturbing.

“We’ve spent a lot of time combing the script and making it as ominous and unsettling as possible.

"The more time we spend on it, the more we push it. The final product is going to be uncomfortable to watch.”

Asked about the reasons for producing the film, Shane went on to explain: “we want to be making big budget movies, plain and simple. It’s always been a goal for us.

"After the success of our piece for Manchester Pride last month, we figured now would be a great time to take those first steps.”

Pre-production began at the start of October, with the film due to be released in time for Halloween.

“We’ve talked about making videos for Halloween in the past, but this is the first time we’re actually delivering on that,” explains Harry McGill, Co-Founder and Creative Director at the company, as well as Director for the film.

“I really think this could be the start of something amazing. To fully fund our own short film has been a dream of ours for years. It’s the first step towards our goal of big budget features.”

The Therapist is directed by Harry McGill and produced by Shane Ogley. Assistant producer is Mollie Chell.
