Lancaster City Council triggers Severe Weather Emergency Protocol for district's homeless

The arrangements are triggered when the night time temperature is predicted to be zero degrees Celsius according to the Met Office.

Overnight temperatures are expected to remain below or around freezing for the next week.

Lancaster City Council said there is a humanitarian obligation on all local authorities to do all they can to prevent deaths on the streets caused by winter weather.

This includes the cold, but also conditions such as extreme wind and rain.

Overnight temperatures are set to remain below or around freezing for several days.

Lancaster City Council has triggered SWEP due to the cold weather.
