Parkdean Resorts - which is the UK’s largest operator of caravan, lodge, cabin, glamping and camping holiday resorts - said that it anticipates the next few months will be one of its busiest summers ever, with people looking to take a break in their home country, rather than travelling abroad.

It said it will be implementing and enforcing a social distance policy, including drive thru check-ins, one way systems, and clear social distancing markers.

Gibraltar Farm in Silverdale is operating a pre-booking only policy, with no reception, and campers will be able to bring "toilet tents" at no extra charge.

The re-opening of holiday parks and campsites coincides with the re-opening of pubs, restaurants and hotels as the government relaxes its coronavirus lockdown measures.

Lancaster City Council is reminding people to respect parks and open spaces so they can be enjoyed by everyone.

The plea comes after litter and broken glass was left strewn across beaches in Morecambe, as well as parks and beauty spots across the district, during the recent spell of hot weather.

Coun Dave Brookes, cabinet member with responsibility for environmental services, said: "As lockdown eases, we need to work together to rebuild our local economy.

"In Morecambe, a significant part of this involves attracting visitors to enjoy our wonderful seaside and spend money while they are here, but like anyone else, visitors don't want to find dirty and unsafe beaches covered in litter and broken glass.

“The city council has worked really hard to help our residents during lockdown, but it has limited resources and can’t do everything.

"We need people to help us, and help themselves, by not creating unnecessary work for our teams. The facilities are there to dispose of waste safely, and I would ask people to use them."

Steve Richards, Chief Executive of Parkdean Resorts, said the company was preparing for one of its busiest summers ever.

He said: “We are ready and waiting to warmly welcome holidaymakers who want to enjoy a well-deserved break whilst seeking fresh air, open spaces and safe, beautiful locations.

"Our team has worked hard to ensure that whilst social distancing and health and safety measures are adhered to, our holidaymakers’ experience will be the best yet.”
