Six fire engines from Lancaster, Morecambe, Bolton-le-Sands and Carnforth stations as well as the aerial ladder platfrom from Preston station were called to blaze after two floors of the house were 'well alight' and had spread to three other properties, one of which was also engulfed in flames, as well as a detached garage and 70 metres of fencing.

A spokesman for LFRS said: "Firefighters used two jets, four hose reels, six breathing apparatus and the aerial ladder platform to put out the fire. All persons were accounted for however one casualty was administered to hospital for checks following smoke inhalation"

While crews were tackling the major fire, another blaze broke out at a house on Cleveleys Avenue at 6.30pm. Due to a number of crews being tied up with the other fire, three fire engines from Silverdale, Hornby and Garstang were sent to the incident.

The fire was on the first floor of the house and had spead into the 'roof space' according to firefighters.

The spokesman added: "Firefighters used six breathing apparatus, a 10.5m ladder, two hose reels and a positive ventilation fan to put an end to the fire. Crews also had to remove roof tiles and use a thermal imaging camera to stop the flames."

One casualty was checked after suffering smoke inhalation but is not believed to have gone to hospital. Firefighters were at the scene for three hours.
