Peter Mcdermid from Trimpell Cricket Club has become the first winner of Lancashire Cricket’s Volunteer Recognition Programme, which is sponsored by AO.com.

Peter has volunteered at the club for over 50 years in a multitude of roles.

He is responsible for the junior section, running coaching sessions and managing teams across Lancaster and Morecambe.

Peter also spends every lunch time coaching cricket at Westgate Primary School, and also prepares the wicket at Trimpell CC as well as looking after the club administration.

Peter said: “It was a terrific boost for me and everyone involved with the Trimpell Club to be recognised by Lancashire Cricket and AO.com.

“It’s great that Lancashire Cricket Club is taking such an interest in the club game and that key people take the time to keep up such contact with grassroots cricket.”

As part of the award, Trimpell CC were awarded a new 55-inch 4K TV, courtesy of AO.com, which will be set up in their clubhouse and Peter was also presented with a special individual prize.

It was awarded by Lancashire’s Director of Cricket, Paul Allott, and Head of Cricket Business, Warren Hegg, earlier this week.

Allott said: “Volunteers just like Peter are vital to the operation of cricket clubs right across the county.

“From tending to the pitch to coaching the junior teams, without such enthusiastic and passionate volunteers cricket in Lancashire would suffer.

“It is our privilege to be able to reward Peter for all his efforts and passion over so many years.

“I look forward to seeing Peter at the 2018 End of Season Awards in September where Peter will be a nominee for the AO Volunteer of the Year.”

As AO.com Volunteer of the Month for May, Peter becomes a nominee for the AO.com Volunteer of the Year award, which will be presented at Lancashire Cricket Club’s end of season awards at Emirates Old Trafford on Friday, September 28.
