Tributes paid to popular Morecambe man

Frank Hadwen passed away on Tuesday March 29 at the age of 87.

Frank was a member of one of the world’s oldest secular societies and charitable organisations, the Freemasons.

He became Master of Morecambe Lodge in 1994 and was made Past Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 2006 and was one of the most senior provincial officers in the Lancaster Masonic Group.

He was chairman of Morecambe Masonic Fellowship for many years. The fellowship is an organisation for senior citizens with Masonic connections and widows of Masons from Lancaster and Morecambe and the surrounding areas, together with Masons who have taken early retirement.

Stuart Aimson, a member of Morecambe Lodge, said: “He always had a lot of time for everyone, gave a lot of good advice and he was a nice man. He is going to be very sadly missed.”

Frank was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army cadet force and a past president of Bare Institute.

He was also a warden of Christ Church in Bare which he attended every week.

Frank is survived by his wife Joan. The couple did not have any children and celebrated their diamond wedding 
anniversary on August 16 2012.

Rachel Wilkinson, Frank’s niece, said: “He was a stalwart to the community and our family and he will remain in our lives forever.”

Jim Wilson, group chairman of Lancaster District Masons, said: “He was a very private person who kept all his different activities away from each another but was extremely well-respected by all whom he dealt with.”

His funeral will be held on Monday April 11 at Christ Church, Broadway, in Morecambe at 1.30pm, followed by cremation at Lancaster Crematorium at 2.45.pm.
