Tributes paid to boy who died in Lancaster house blaze

Tributes have been paid to an 11-year-old schoolboy who died in a house fire in Lancaster at the weekend.

Cem Bora was sleeping over at a friend’s house on Coniston Road when the fire broke out in the early hours of 
Sunday.

Tributes have been pouring in since the tragic news struck the community.

Cat Smith, Lancaster MP, said she will support the family in any way she can.

“I’m sure I speak for all 
local people when I say how devastated I am to learn of this tragic news,” she said.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“I’m holding those still in hospital in my prayers and wishing them a full recovery from their injuries.”

Hundreds have also paid their respects on social media.

Nichola Gillow said: “Absolutely heart breaking, taken far too soon. Thoughts are with the family at this awful time.”

Andrea Akrigg said: “Lovely young boy and a pleasure to have met him. RIP Cem sleep tight. My thoughts go to all the family.”

Patricia Jones said: “What a stunningly beautiful little boy. RIP little man. My thoughts are with the family. There are no words possible.”

Cem, a Dallas Road Primary School pupil, went to training sessions for under 12s at Lancaster City Juniors Football Club.

The club said: “Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go to the family and friends of Cem.

“Cem had been coming to our U12s training with his best friend Jermaine.

“He was always smiling and such a lovely, polite young man.”

As a mark of respect the club will hold a minute’s applause at next week’s matches and their under 12s team will wear black armbands.

A crowdfunding page has been set up by the community in Cem’s memory.

More than £3,000 has been raised so far for his family.
