Bank holiday traffic on the M6 around Preston is starting clear after the motorway was closed because of a police incident.
Officers have not confirmed what has caused them to close the north and southbound carriageways of the M6 between junctions 31 and 31a, but it is believed to be because of a man on a bridge over the motorway at Longridge Road.
Eyewitnesses described seeing the man standing on the wrong side of railings and police officers attempting to bring him down.
The road was closed and considerable traffic tailed back on both sides of the motorway.
Now, Highways England are in the process of re-opening the road. They tweeted: “#M6 J31 n/bound. We are in the process of re-opening the road. @LancsPolice incident has now been dealt with. Thanks for your patience.”
