Roadworks update for the North West: All major works from October 19 to October 25

Round up of all of the major roadworks taking place across the region this week

The following summary of planned new and ongoing roadworks over the coming week is correct as of October 16 but could be subject to change due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

M6 junction 36

A £7m maintenance project along the A590 between Brettargh Holt junction and the M6 at junction 36 includes improvements at the motorway roundabout itself (including resurfacing and installing new bridge joints). The four-month project is expected to be completed in December and involves traffic management – including closures – at the roundabout at times.

The south bridge at the motorway roundabout is currently closed around the clock with no access from the southbound M6 or A65 and signed diversions in place. The bridge is due to re-open on Sunday October 25.

On Wednesday, October 21 the M6 junction 36 northbound exit slip road will be closed between 8pm and 6am (likewise the westbound A590 between the motorway and Brettargh Holt roundabout.

M55 junctions 1 to 3

Narrow lanes and a 50mph speed limit are now in place along a short stretch of the motorway where a new junction (junction 2) is being constructed as part of Lancashire County Council’s Preston Western Distributor road project.

A585 Windy Harbour to Skippool improvement

Work to deliver a £150m new bypass and junction improvements is now underway. Overnight (7pm to 4am) roadworks include ground investigations (road narrows) on October 19, 20 and 21 at Little Singleton junction and ground investigations along the A585 Mains Lane between Little Singleton and Shard Lane junctions (using temporary traffic lights) on October 20, 21, 22 and 23 .

On October 19 and 20 there will also be ground investigations along Lodge Lane with temporary traffic lights in place between 8am and 5pm.

A590 Brettargh Holt to M6 resurfacing

A major, £7m maintenance project to reconstruct and resurface the dual carriageway along the A590 between junction 36 of the M6 and Brettargh Holt roundabout started in September and is expected to be completed in December. Work on the westbound carriageway has now been completed and access to the westbound exit slip road at Brettargh Holt roundabout has been restored.

The eastbound carriageway from Brettargh Holt roundabout to the M6 is now closed for this carriageway to be reconstructed and resurfaced. This work is expected to be completed by October 25 and until then a single eastbound lane is now running in a contraflow arrangement along the newly-resurfaced westbound carriageway..

On October 21 the westbound A590 between the motorway and Brettargh Holt roundabout will be closed between 8pm and 6am (likewise the M6 junction 36 northbound exit slip road).
