Pensioner suffers head injury after car crashes into lamp post on A6 in Lancaster

The A6 in Lancaster has been closed following a serious collision in which a woman in her 70s has suffered a head injury.

Two cars have collided, causing one of the vehicles to smash into a lamp post on Scotforth Road near the Shell garage shortly before 11am today (July 8).

Emergency services rushed to the scene with one lane initially blocked off.

It has now been confirmed the whole road has since been closed for "urgent repairs".

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "We were called shortly before 11am to Scotforth Road to an RTC by the Shell garage. One lane was initially blocked.

"Two vehicles were involved and one has gone into a lamp post. A woman in her 70s has suffered a head injury.

"The road has now been completely closed."

The council has reportedly been informed and repairs are due to take place.

People have been been urged to avoid the area.

North West Ambulance Service has been approached for comment.
