'Pedestrians' on M6 motorway causes traffic to stop near Preston

Speed restrictions and queuing traffic has been reported by motorists travelling on the M6 between Preston and Lancaster today (July 21).

The cause of the congestion was reportedly due to people walking on the motorway between junctions 33 (Hampson Green Interchange) and 32 (Broughton Interchange) at around 2.10pm.

Police rushed to the scene and the road was temporarily reduced to 50mph, according to eyewitness reports.

A person has reportedly been arrested by officers following a man hunt in the woods next to the motorway, but this has not yet been confirmed.

AA Traffic News has reported delays in the area are easing with eight minutes of congestion northbound and 14 minutes southbound between Junction 32 and 33.

Emergency services have been approached for comment.
