A busy road was shut for around 12 hours today after an articulated lorry flipped over at a roundabout.

The wagon ended up on its side on the Slyne Road roundabout on the A683 Bay Gateway near Lancaster at 2.30am.

The driver had to be freed from his cab by firefighters using a triple extension ladder.

He was checked over by paramedics at the scene, but was said to be unhurt.

Police had to close the westbound carriageway to traffic while crews worked to recover the vehicle.

The road, which connects the M6 Jct 34 with Heysham, was re-opened at around 2.30pm.
