The road was closed for almost four hours while collision investigation officers attended the scene, but police would now like to anybody who witnessed the collision.

Detectives also want to hear from anybody who has dashcam or CCTV footage of the collision, or of the vehicles involved in the moments leading up to the incident.

Sgt Laura Kendall, from the Lancashire Police TacOps Team, said: "First and foremost our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died. They are being supported by specially-trained officers and we send them our deepest condolences.

"An investigation is now underway to establish exactly what happened and we would like to hear from anybody who witnessed the collision or who has footage showing either the collision or the moments prior.
