Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express services between Preston and Carlisle are currently suspended after serious flooding near Penrith.

National Rail warns that trains are currently unable to run north from Preston and disruption could last until the end of the day.

National Rail said heavy rain has flooded the railway between Oxenholme and Penrith, resulting in all lines being blocked.

It warns that trains might be delayed by up to 60 minutes or cancelled, and replacement buses are being arranged to take passengers between stations.

It also warns that journey times might be extended by up to 2 hours.

Trains between Lancaster and Barrrow-in-Furness are also subject to delays and cancellations due to congestion on the lines.

Passengers travelling from Preston to Blackpool North have also been affected by a points failure.

The 9.17am and 9.35am services are currently delayed, but the 9.40am service is expected on time.
