A cow was killed when it was in collision with a pensioner’s car.
Firefighters were called to the scene, on the A683 between Melling and Tunstall, near Lancaster, at around 8am on Friday.
They said a 90-year-old man was driving the Land Rover Defender, which had been in collision with the animal, and then overturned.
A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The cow was on its side and when the firefighters arrived it was dead.
“The occupant of the car managed to get out. He went home because he lived nearby.”
The elderly man was said to be unharmed.
Police said they were contacted by a vet at around 8.10am.
They said it appeared the cow had broken out of a nearby farm and ran into the middle of the road.
The car was recovered at around 9.40am.
