Two lanes are closed between junctions 18 (Holmes Chapel) and 19 (Tabley Interchange, Knutsford) after flooding on the carriageway.

Highways said the lane closure is leading to severe congestion for northbound traffic, with delays of around 30 minutes for those passing the affected area.

The flooding is said to have happened on and off for a number of days and is now being repaired ahead of the bank holiday weekend.

Highways said it expects the lanes to be reopened by 12pm.
